Spanish Air

I'm going to te canary islands (Spain) on the 16th April 2011 willbi be caught up in the Spanish air strikes!?

I come back to te uk on the 24th so will Ivey caught up

Currently the dates the unions have proposed to strike are:

· 20, 21, 24, 25 and 30th of April
· 2, 14, 15, 19 and 20th of May
· 13, 23 and 30th of June
· 1, 2, 3, 4, 15 and 31st of July
· 1, 15 and 31st of August

Which coincide with just about all spanish public holidays between now and October!

However - according to interviews I have seen with José Blanco (Minister of transport) the government hope that successful negotiations with trade unions will be able to avoid strikes.

If you are traveling back on the 24th you should be alright. I would be more worried if I was traveling the 20th-21st.

If the government/AENA doesn't suceed in negociations, then it is likely to be a strike on the 20th, but I think it is unlikely that they would let it go on for more than 2 days!

If flights are cancelled on the days before you fly back, but not on the 24th, your seat will be safe, as priority is given to those who already have seats, not to those whose return journey was 1st.

If you do get caught up in the strike & are flying with easyjet - my advise is this:

1) leave the airport, and go straight to an internet café or anywhere else you have internet access (all McDonalds and Starbucks have free wifi for example).
2) Change your booking online to the next outward flight. Do this ASAP before it gets full up.
3) Do not waste time trying to phone easyjet - it is expensive and the lines will probably collapse.
4) Do not waste time trying to talk to airport staff, they can do nothing for you.

Your priority is to get a place on the next flight (or a flight the next day) before it fills....

But like I say, I think by the 24th even if strikes did start, they should be back to work by then.
